Support extended to all the Shigmo committees

Support extended to all the Shigmo committees who had approached Goa Tourism for grants: Dept. of Tourism
Panjim, March 14:The Department  of Tourism, Govt.  of Goa referring to the protests by Tivim locals over non-conduct of the annual Shigmo parade in the area,  has stated that the local Shigmo committee unlike previous years failed to approach the   Department  with its proposal and hence the question of not providing support from the government does not arise.
The Director of Tourism, Govt.  of Goa, Mr. Menino D'Souza said, "As per the set procedure, all local committees  are required to send  their  respective proposals  for  government  support  to conduct  Shigmo parades either through their respective Dy. Coll/SDO or Chief Officer of the concerned Municipality. All the proposals thus received are   scrutinized and  approved  by  the Government accordingly. This year there was no proposal received from Tivim and hence the question of sanctioning grants to this committee does not arise”.
D'Souza further said that  preparations for Shigmo had begun well in time and all committees desirous of conducting the  Shigmo parade not only applied for  permissions and grants but also attended meetings conducted for  streamlining and smooth co-ordination  of Shigmo festivities  to be  held  over  two weeks in the State.
This year, total grants to the tune  of Rs 1.87 crore was approved by the government  for conduct of Shigmo at 15 centers. While grants towards prizes  amounts to Rs 69.50 lakh,  grants towards infrastructure amounts to Rs  1.18 crore.
